Brisbane pollen count today and forecast
Friday 2 October: grass pollen in Brisbane is Low (modelled estimate). Little pasture upwind today, so most grass pollen is local (parks, lawns, roadsides), on a NE wind of 9 km/h. Saturday: Low. Sunday: Low.
Where Brisbane's grass pollen comes from
Subtropical grasses (Bahia grass, Paspalum, Rhodes grass, couch) flower from October into autumn, with several peaks that follow summer rain, so the season is long rather than sharp. Our estimate for Brisbane follows the grazing land inland of the city: it was drier than usual about 38 days ago (grass flowers some weeks after it greens), and 7 mm of rain fell two to four weeks ago. This model is our own and has not been checked against local counts (the subtropical pollen season). On the map, particles leave pasture cells (ABARES land use) and ride today's forecast wind. Their number follows today's modelled level, so a dense stream means a high day.
