Melaka haze today: air quality and PM2.5 forecast

Friday 9 October: the CAMS global model forecasts a daily mean of 100 µg/m³ PM2.5 for Melaka today, above the WHO interim target 1 (75 µg/m³); the highest of the next days is 100 µg/m³. These are model values. For the official Air Pollutant Index (API) see APIMS (Department of Environment Malaysia, live Air Pollutant Index, API). SkyPollen does not yet have a pollen level for Melaka: no pollen forecast exists for Malaysia.

Haze and allergy in Melaka

Melaka faces Sumatra across the narrowest part of the Strait of Malacca, opposite the Indonesian province of Riau, where many of the peat fires behind the haze burn. When the southwest monsoon blows, Melaka and its neighbours are among the first places on the peninsula to be hit. In June 2013 the town of Muar, just south of Melaka across the Johor border, recorded an Air Pollutant Index of 746 and a state of emergency was declared there, one of the highest readings ever recorded in Malaysia.
