Haze and allergy in Shah Alam

Shah Alam, the capital of Selangor, lies on the western side of the Klang Valley between Kuala Lumpur and Port Klang, so it gets both the transboundary haze that crosses the Strait of Malacca and the city's own traffic and industrial smoke. Selangor also has peat swamp forests of its own, such as those of Kuala Langat south of the city, which can catch fire in long dry spells and add local smoke. During haze episodes the Department of Environment station at Johan Setia, south of Klang, is often among the highest readings in Selangor.
